This week let’s take a look at prayer and give your children an idea of what prayer is, how to do it, and why it can make a difference.
For your own formation and some ideas of what you can do here is a great list of 15 ways to teach your children to pray: https://www.catechist.com/15-ways-teach-children-pray/ I would encourage you to look at this list and divide it into “ways that we are doing this at home well” and “ways that we can use some improvement in teaching our children to pray” From this second column pick one and work on it until you feel you can move it to the other column. Take these ways one at a time and day by day. From there you will start to see change and growth.
I also want to suggest a great app for you! It is called “Hallow” and through using technology you too learn how to pray in different ways. Or you can use it with your children. https://hallow.com/
To start your at home session this week, I suggest you take one of the 5 stories listed in this message and read/discuss it with your children. Or if you want you can read all 5! https://mailchi.mp/da9ac25836e2/biblebreaks-1757613?e=4a3d846368

Creating a sacred space in your home. Having a prayer corner or a space in your house devoted to prayer or that reminds us of our faith will help make real connections with that faith and your children. Here is a great way to get started from the Diocese of Lansing: Creating a Sacred space in your home – COVID
Lastly, let’s put into practice what we have learned! Personal prayer is something that many of us struggle with. We do not know what to say or do are some of the common reasons that we do not pray (other than wrote prayers or at specific times). Here is a great way to spend 3 minutes a day in personal prayer. If your kids are too young, then you can guide them in the 3 minutes. If you children can read, then you can give them a copy of this flyer and have them do it on their own. PPCposter
