The devotion for the month of the November that the Catholic Church gives to us is “For the Holy Souls in Purgatory”. This month (but really everyday throughout the year) in a special way we can offer prayers for the deceased.
In this article you can find some simple ways to talk about purgatory with your children, lead them into prayer, and live it. I certainly recommend you taking sometime this week (and for the rest of the month) to have these discussions about death, heaven, and the afterlife. The list that is offered on the live it section is a great starting point for making the faith alive and not just something to talk about. https://teachingcatholickids.com/the-holy-souls-in-purgatory-monthly-devotion-for-november/

I say this all and maybe you yourself need some more information about purgatory. Here are a few resources for your understanding:
This article is a little longer, but it is good for explaining Purgatory if you have more questions:

Also this week is a big week for the Diocese of Richmond. This year the diocese is celebrating its 200th anniversary as a diocese and that is big deal! Take some time this weekend to participate and watch the Eucharistic Congress and different talks the Diocese has organized. The speaker lineup looks great for adults and for children.

Also a month ago the Catholic Virginian published some activities for children, in case you did not save that issue, here is a link to that page: https://catholicvirginian.org/catholic-living/kids/shine-like-stars-wherever-you-are/
