Parents, I hope that you and your family had and continue to have a Merry Christmas. We are still in the Christmas season until the church celebrates the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord on January 10, so keep up your decorations and continue to wish others a Merry Christmas.
This Sunday the church celebrates the Feast of the Holy Family and at such a great time, always the Sunday after Christmas. The Holy Family is a perfect model is often referred to as a reflection of the Holy Trinity. In his Angelus address on December 27, 2009 Pope Benedict says this:
“God had chosen to reveal himself by being born into a human family and the human family thus became an icon of God! God is the Trinity, he is a communion of love; so is the family despite all the differences that exist between the Mystery of God and his human creature, an expression that reflects the unfathomable Mystery of God as Love. In marriage the man and the woman, created in God’s image, become “one flesh” (Gen 2: 24), that is a communion of love that generates new life. The human family, in a certain sense, is an icon of the Trinity because of its interpersonal love and the fruitfulness of this love.”
So as you hopefully take time this week to relax spend quality time with your own family be mindful of the love of the Trinity and the love of the Holy Family as an example of the love that you have for your own family.
This Feast Day should encourage us all to strive for holiness in our own lives and in the lives of those entrusted to us (our spouse and children). Here are some more points for you to ponder as you celebrate this Feast Day: Feast of the Holy Family
Other than this, take time each day this week to pray with your family and be sure you are engaging in Mass. I pray that the time you have with your families this week joyful and peaceful.
