Stewardship Minutes

Stewardship Talk
Paul Metzger

Good Morning. My name is Paul Metzger and I am a member of St. Nick’s Haiti Committee. My wife and I have been parishioners for 21 years ever since the Navy dropped us in Hampton Roads. During that time I have been involved in teaching teens and pre-teens in Christian formation classes, been an Antioch Team adult member for many years, chaired the Christian Formation Committee and been a Parish Council member. But perhaps the most interesting and rewarding stewardship involvement has been in the Peace and Justice world of the Haiti Committee. I know of no other parish activity that encompasses so much. On this committee you can experience foreign travel. My wife and I have been privileged to travel to Haiti and spend time with Father Leveque and members of St. Anne’s parish. I hope many of you have seen our presentation and pictures and heard our stories. It was truly an awe inspiring experience.
If travel planning is your interest, we work closely with parish staff to coordinate Father Leveque’s biannual visits to Virginia Beach. If you are more the “hunter gatherer” or into crafts, we have also collected and put together over 400 health kits for St. Anne parishioners. Like books and book discussions groups? We have discussed current books on Haiti and its history and politics. We have also been active in selling Haitian and Fair Trade coffee to benefit not only the St. Nicholas Parable Project but also provide scholarship funds for Haitian students and seminarians. In closing let me encourage you to think about joining our committee. We need new ideas. We meet monthly and you do not have to visit Haiti to be a member. But who knows where the spirit will lead you, I will be in the commons after mass if you have any questions about the Haiti Committee. Thank you and God Bless.
