STEWARDSHIP TALK
09 JULY 2005
Good evening. My name is David Speer. My wife Nancy and I and our
two sons, Ryan age 13 and Daniel age 9 have been parishioners here
at St. Nicholas since 1994. Nancy and I want to take a couple of
minutes to talk to you about stewardship and what it means to our
family.
Stewardship is truly a family affair with the Speers and we have
all been involved in it for some years. Daniel was in Funshine Kids
and he still actively participates in all clothing, food, and toy
drives. Ryan was also in Funshine Kids, volunteered at Vacation
Bible School and currently participates in Liturgy as an altar server.
Nancy chaired Family Network for two years, taught Christian formation,
assisted in Vacation Bible School, and currently works with the
Parish Nurse Ministry by assisting a handicapped parishioner during
mass. I have been on Parish Council, have been a lector, have served
in the Nursery, and currently serve as one of the catechists for
the Children’s Liturgy of the Word during Mass.
We participate because we really love the faith community at St.
Nicholas and we have felt God’s grace change our lives for
the better. The giving of our time and talents is something we can
do to contribute to our faith community. Whether we give clothes
to poor families in Appalachia, cheer up the guests at the M.E.
Cox center next door, or conduct Scripture lessons with children,
we try to always live with the love of Christ in our hearts and
try to live the example Jesus gave us in the Gospels. Our family
has received so many blessings from our stewardship efforts and
we have felt God’s grace in our lives by this giving of ourselves.
We encourage you to jump in and join the stewardship way of life
and feel the joy of serving.
We feel so strongly about the positive effects of stewardship that
both of us have recently joined the Stewardship Committee and we
are very much looking forward to this wonderful opportunity God
has presented us with. We will be available in the lobby after Mass
to discuss with you any questions you may have about stewardship.
Thank you.
