Stewardship Talk
Cynthia Royes
SUNDAY, April 23, 2006

Hello, most of you might know me already but if not, my name is Cynthia Royes. I have been a member of St. Nicholas for almost 9 years. Since joining St. Nicholas, I have been involved in a number of ministries: the Finance Council, part of the Kitchen Crew, a Bread Baker, an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister & a Lector. And I thought today I would say a few words about being a Lector. First, I'd like to share with you how I became involved in this wonderful ministry. It started when I was living in NY and went back to church. One Sunday, as I was sitting listening to the lector reading the passages without any inflection or enthusiasm, I thought how boring this person was & thought I could do a better job. Well, I'm sure most of us are aware how God likes to give us challenges & works in mysterious ways. The following week in the church bulletin there was an announcement looking for new lectors. I had to laugh after reading that and took it as a little challenge from God to me "if you think you can do better, let's see it" and with that, I jumped in with both feet – that was 10 years ago. It's hard to express the joy & privilege I've felt every time I have had the opportunity to read the word of God. I have found it to be such a wonderful way of sharing His life with all of you. I'm so glad I took His challenge; it's been a blessing to me in more ways than one. Thank you. I'll be in the Commons after mass, if you have any questions.
