Stewardship Minutes

Stewardship Talk
John Wiersch

My wife, Pat and I have been members here at St, Nicholas since 1988. My stewardship started when Pat asked me to help her do a flower arrangement here in the garden. This involvement led to decorating the church for Christmas. I am still involved with Arts And Environment. We will be doing the flowers here next weekend. Again Pat got me involved. She priced and worked at the White Elephant sale, now called the tent sale. We were asked to run this event about eight to ten years ago. We accepted and still hold this position. Two weeks from tonight our fourth Mardi Gras auction will take place. Along with other parishioners we are working to make this one as great as the auctions in the past. You can show stewardship by getting involved as a donator, a worker or a buyer for this event. About five years ago Father asked me to meet him for lunch. I figured that I must be in trouble. At lunch he asked me to serve as chairperson for administration on the parish council. I accepted and still hold this position. Building and Grounds and Ways and Means come under administration. In the past few years I worked with others to get the parking lot paved, carpet the church building, plus many other projects in the building and on the grounds. Ways and Means has four events here. The Fall Festival, the golf tournament, the auction and the Christmas tree sales. These four events generated 50,000 dollars this past year, which help support our church and it's ministries. Help Yourself By Helping Others. Stewardship is what I do after I say what "I believe." In business some companies have stock options, but at St. Nicholas we offer stewardship options. Please stop in the commons or in the side vestibule and pick up one of these pamphlets. After Mass I will be in he commons selling Mardi Gras Auction tickets. I will be glad to answer any questions. Thank you for listening.
