Stewardship Talk
Bobby Brown

Hi, I’m Bobby. Most of you probably know me as an outgoing and involved person who, once he starts talking, might just ramble on forever….don’t worry, that’s not what I’m going to do today! Anyhow, I wasn’t always that way. I used to be very quiet and withdrawn at everything. However, a few years ago, I had to attend an Antioch retreat for confirmation, and like most of the people who are going to Antioch for the first time, when I arrived Friday night, I had other places I’d much rather have been. And like many people who’ve gone to Antioch, I discovered that when it came time to go home Sunday, there was absolutely no place I’d rather be than back at Antioch. In fact, I loved it so much that Miss Cyndy is still trying to figure out how to get rid of me! Antioch marked the beginning of my involvement in the church. I came to all the Afterglow meetings, gave an afterglow talk, and eagerly signed up to be on the team for the next retreat. Antioch is the reason I’m a much more outgoing person today and most of my closest friends are people I’ve been to Antioch with. Every Antioch retreat that comes up now, I always try to be involved and help out in what ever way I can. Antioch made a big difference in my life and now I want to help make that difference for other people. When I graduated high school and was deemed too old to be a full participant in Antioch retreats, I joined the folk group. Let me tell you, if going to Antioch was one of the best decisions I’ve ever had made for me, joining the folk group was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. My favorite days have become Mondays and Sundays because I have folk group to look forward to, and occasionally Wednesdays when there are Afterglow meetings. Also, most of my closest friends who I didn’t meet at Antioch are the people sitting in that corner over there (indicating folk group). Since joining the folk group, I have been trying to be increasingly involved with activities around the church and have gotten nothing but satisfaction out of it. So if you have some extra time to spare, look for ways to become involved around the parish. It’s a wonderful experience and who knows? You might just even make some new friends! I’ll be out in the commons to answer questions, etc…
